| CODE OF ETHICS |
MISSION: To produce and distribute sign language media that maintains a standard of
morals and integrity that will benefit general audiences, while promoting the subject matter
at hand with dignity and respect.
Brochures, commercials, lyrics, magazines, novels, scripts, songs, textbooks, videos, and other
material may be submitted to The Deaf Welcome Foundation for evaluation.
All submissions for translation and/or distribution by The Deaf Welcome Foundation must be
approved by the Equal Access Committee and meet the following criteria:
(1) Must be fit for general audiences, unless the topic
is approved by the Artists
for Equal Access Committee and presentation is deemed necessary in its submitted format for
the health, safety and/or education of a specified target audience. (i.e., HIV, AIDS, and other
sensitive matters)
(2) FREE of obscenities and violence
deemed inappropriate for general viewing audiences, unaccompanied by a parent or guardian.
(3) FREE of nudity, sexuality,
the occult, supernatural, or behavior deemed inappropriate due to deviant, demoralizing, shocking or
illegal content.
(4) FREE of prejudice
that elevates one race, nation, creed, religion or culture above another.
(5) FREE of nationalism,
patriotism, and/or religious content designed to promote one race, nation, or creed above another.
(6) FREE of disrespect
and/or civil disobedience for law enforcement or other civil authority.
(7) FREE of content which promotes, advocates or
endorses illegal or unethical activities
or behavior.
(8) FREE of material that would
alienate the Deaf from the subject matter at hand
and/or
deemed culturally offensive.
The Deaf Welcome Foundation will consult with writers and translators if submissions are
desired but editing is required to maintain this
code of ethics. Writers unable or unwilling to have their submissions comply with these stated
guidelines will have to be respectfully declined. |
